Susan Abbott, LL.B : Principal of Lempriere Abbott Legal
"Lem-pree-air" Abbott Legal is me, Susan Lempriere Abbott.
I am near the end of a long line of “Lempriere Abbotts” in the Law in South Australia.
My grandfather, Charles Arthur Hillas Lempriere Abbott QC, was the Attorney General of South Australia between 1944 and 1946 and then a Justice of the Supreme Court until 1959.
My late father, Derek Athol Lempriere Abbott and his elder brother, Charles Anthony Lempriere Abbott were two of the founding partners of the well-respected city firm, Lempriere Abbott McLeod, which operated for over 50 years until 2021.
My older brother, Hugh Anthony Lempriere Abbott, is a Senior Counsel at the South Australian Bar and my younger cousin, Charles Samuel Lempriere Abbott, is a Kings Counsel.
My other brother, Charles Lempriere Abbott, is an Accredited Solicitor in Criminal Law in Sydney.
So either we Lempriere Abbotts lack imagination or we have the law in our blood (in my case I suspect it’s a bit of both!)
I graduated from Adelaide University in 1990 and for the next decade worked at Caldicott & Co, a busy criminal and general law firm, and then in my own city practice.
For the following 10 years my husband and I explored this beautiful country and set about the business of raising 3 boys.
We eventually returned to South Australia, settled in magical Port Willunga 16 years ago and plan to never leave.
Throughout that time, I was commuting to the city most days to work as a partner of the well-respected general law firm, D’Angelo Lawyers, in Millswood.
Essentially, I have become tired of the travelling and want to spend more time where I live in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. It is a rapidly growing community that I believe will benefit from the services of another experienced lawyer.
I am approaching three decades of experience in the main areas of Wills & Estates, Family law and common law Personal Injury claims. I also receive assignments from the Commissioner for Victims’ Rights to represent victims of serious crimes (and their families) in certain cases.
Working as a sole practitioner from a studio office in Port Willunga, enables me to limit client numbers to my personal capacity so that all my clients will receive my focussed and prompt attention, plus my usual honest, practical advice and fearless advocacy.

"Thank you so much for everything. You really made, what felt like an impossible situation when I came to you, that was causing incredible damage to A, become somewhat manageable.
Most importantly you helped give A a voice. I can honestly not thank you enough for that! I know this is your job, however, you helped me find a way through my nightmare and your support through some very hard times helped me to hold things together for the kids."
